North Providence Animal Welfare Society

Our History

NPAWS was born in 2020 out of concern for the well-being of animals housed at the North Providence Animal Shelter. The building was over 50 years old, out of compliance with sheltering standards and well beyond repair. One of our primary goals was to hold town officials accountable to their promise of building a new, adequate facility, and we are proud to say they did. The new Tritown shelter opened in 2023.

Our History

Our mission is to advocate for the well-being of animals within the care of the Tri-town Animal Shelter in North Providence, support their caretakers and advocate for needed programs and services. We're also committed to doing all we can to keep pets with their families and out of the shelter system, as well as ensuring that our community cats are cared for and the population is significantly reduced if not eliminated.

Our Team

Our team is small but mighty and looking to grow! We're comprised of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about animals and committed to advocating on their behalf. We spend much of our time engaging and supporting the community with our food distribution, veterinary fund and TNR programs. We're also advocating for much needed shelter programs and services.
